ABSTRACT:

The aim of this study is to identify the difficulties university students encounter in the foreign language learning process. The research was designed using a quantitative approach and is based on a descriptive survey model. The sample of the study consists of 180 first-year students enrolled at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Kırıkkale University. The ‘Foreign Language Learning Difficulties Scale (FLLDS)’, which had previously undergone validity and reliability testing, was used as the data collection tool. The scale is a five-point Likert-type scale comprising five factors and 29 items. The data obtained were analysed using descriptive statistics (arithmetic mean, standard deviation); furthermore, whether students’ foreign language learning difficulties differed across various variables (gender, department, participation in sports, etc.) was examined using the independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). It is anticipated that the findings of this study will contribute to identifying the difficulties encountered by students at the Faculty of Sports Sciences in the foreign language learning process and, consequently, to the development of educational programmes.
