Bridging Educational Gap with Emerging Technologies: Implication for Ekiti State Primary School Pupils’ Academic Performance

ABSTRACT:
The study examined bridging educational gap with innovative technologies: Implication for Ekiti State Primary School Pupils’ Academic Performance. The study specially investigated innovative technologies available for teachers use. The research design adopted was a mixed method. The sample comprised 50 intact class of rural primary schools pupils. The instruments for the study were questionnaire and standardized test. The face and content validity of the instruments was ascertained from experts in Information Technology and Test, Measurement and Evaluation. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The research questions were answered using mean, standard deviation while t-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there was significant relationship between availability of innovative technologies and pupils’ academic performance. The findings showed that the difference in mean performance scores of pupils exposed to innovative technologies and those taught with conventional method of teaching at Post-test stage was high and improvement in their academic performance was evident as against the pre-test. The study revealed some level of pupils’ literacy skills and numerical competence which invariably would enable them functional in digital market and the nation at large. It was therefore concluded that innovative technologies are effective tools to enhance performance and develop 21st century skills like critical and creative thinking. It was therefore recommended that there should provision of more innovative technology facilities and professional development trainings for teachers through workshops/ seminars.
