Intermediality and Intertextuality as Artistic Tools Against the Identity Loss of the 21st Century

ABSTRACT:
The contemporary systemic crises have been a topic of great interest at the very least since the times of the pandemic. Societal perspectives and concerns have undergone a radical shift, which is clearly reflected as well in the artistic proposals that have emerged over the last five years. This study focuses on how intermediality has become an artistic tool for preserving contact with humanity (both the intimate and personal, as well as the universal) and how it has also become a perfect instrument for the expression and vindication of identity in an increasingly fragmented world. Based on a case study of the artistic proposals of Spanish musician Rosalía, this study focuses on identifying the tools that have proven most useful in both maintaining the connection between artist and public, and expressing the faces of an increasingly more fractioned identity, all amidst the social chaos that seems to define our times.
