Innovative Methods in Teaching English for Military Purposes

ABSTRACT:

Military English is a special language variety and has its own characteristics. That is the reason why several studies are being conducted in this field in order to ensure effective language education for cadets at the Armed Forces Academy in Slovakia and their successful preparation for the STANAG 6001 exam (a specific final exam for military personnel). Within the e-learning platform Moodle, Lingua Force was launched: a unique language platform designed to meet the needs of military personnel, containing authentic teaching materials for military as well as general topics. The platform is suitable for both classroom use and self-study. Currently, the focus is on the use of AI tools in military language education. A questionnaire was created to determine to what extent AI tools are used among the cadets at the Armed Forces Academy. Several AI tools are going to be tested in classes with military students to identify which of them are most effective for different language skills (speaking, writing, reading, listening) as well as seven language functions they need to master for their STANAG 6001 exam.
