ABSTRACT:

The accelerated integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into English for Specific Purposes (ESP) pedagogy signals a substantive reconfiguration of how specialized language learning is conceptualized, enacted, and evaluated. This presentation synthesizes contemporary empirical research alongside selected classroom-based illustrations from higher education ESP contexts to interrogate the pedagogical affordances and constraints of AI-driven tools—including adaptive learning environments, intelligent writing assistants, and automated assessment systems. The analysis delineates the implications of these technologies for curriculum architecture, assessment design, and the evolving professional agency of ESP practitioners across diverse disciplinary domains. Evidence emerging from the surveyed studies and instructional applications indicates that adaptive learning platforms consistently bolster learner engagement and lexical development, while AI-supported writing tools enhance accuracy and genre conformity in specialized written discourse. The presentation concludes by proposing a set of principled recommendations for the informed integration of AI into ESP curricula, emphasizing the need to sustain human-centered pedagogical judgment while leveraging AI’s potential to support contextually relevant, measurable learning outcomes.
