ABSTRACT:

The increasing complexity of healthcare practice necessitates effective interprofessional collaboration, positioning interprofessional education (IPE) as integral to preparing future health professionals. Our group led the development of an interprofessional education experience (IPE Day) for students across multiple health disciplines within a large Health faculty. A total of 486 students representing psychology, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, laboratory medicine, biomedicine, Chinese medicine and medical radiations, along with 25 facilitators, engaged in innovative interprofessional education activities. An evaluation was undertaken with both students and staff responding to open-ended questions. Reflexive thematic analysis identified three overarching themes: Communication and Role Understanding; Pedagogical and Structural Conditions for Engagement, and Professional Identity and Reflexive Growth. Findings revealed mutual learning and role awareness underpin effective collaboration, while facilitation quality, curriculum design, and institutional support influence engagement. Participation in IPE fostered reflective learning, professional confidence, and awareness of disciplinary hierarchies; however logistical and structural barriers limited inclusivity. The study highlights IPE as both a pedagogical and cultural process that fosters reflective learning and professional confidence in students and staff. Although conducted within a single-institution context, the findings provide transferable insights for health education, with institutional commitment, faculty development, and curriculum integration recommended to ensure long-term impact.
