Integrating Intelligent Technologies in the Classroom: Perspectives from Primary Educators

ABSTRACT:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into educational settings to improve teaching effectiveness, facilitate personalized learning, automate administrative tasks, and increase accessibility for students, particularly those with disabilities. While the global use of AI in education is growing rapidly, there is a lack of empirical research on its application in Croatian schools. The aim of this study is to explore the perceptions of teachers and expert associates regarding the use of AI in teaching, to determine its perceived benefits and challenges, and to assess whether and how it supports students in the learning process. A quantitative study was conducted in one elementary school in Croatia using a structured questionnaire adapted from Martino (2024). The survey collected demographic data and measured attitudes using a 15-item Likert scale. Data were collected in person and analyzed using SPSS. Preliminary analysis suggests generally positive teacher perceptions of AI’s potential in education, though concerns remain regarding its didactic effectiveness, ethical implications, and the need for professional development. The findings indicate that while teachers recognize the potential of AI to enhance educational practices, successful implementation will depend on adequate training, infrastructure, and policies that address ethical and pedagogical concerns.
