First-Wave Feminism in Central Asia: Historical Roots and Socio-Cultural Transformations
Malika Mardieva
ABSTRACT:
The development and effects of first-wave feminism in Central Asia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are examined in this essay. With an emphasis on the interaction of political, social, and cultural shifts, it examines how feminist concepts developed and changed during Russian imperial rule and the early Soviet reforms. Key figures, events, and changes that influenced women’s rights in the area are highlighted in the study, which also examines their impact on current debates about gender equality. This study seeks to expand the knowledge of feminism beyond Western-centric narratives by re-examining historical problems and accomplishments, highlighting the distinctive socio-cultural dynamics of Central Asia.
