Transmedia in Yoga Teaching: The Semiotic Resignification Process in School Health Education
Nicole de Azevedo Bonavita
ABSTRACT:
The research titled “Transmedia in Yoga Teaching: Semiotic Resignification Process in School Health Education” investigates how transmedia strategies can facilitate the semiotic resignification of Yoga in public elementary schools in Rio de Janeiro. The study aims to explore how Yoga, often seen as elitist, can be reinterpreted as an accessible health-promoting practice using multiple media. Utilizing a qualitative approach, including participant observation, interviews, and analysis of transmedia materials, the research reveals that transmedia pedagogy significantly alters students’ perceptions of Yoga. Previously regarded with disinterest or prejudice, Yoga is now viewed as relevant for physical and mental well-being. However, the study also highlights challenges in fully controlling students’ interpretations, as some stereotypes persist, reflecting the complexities of educational work in diverse cultural contexts. The dissertation concludes that while transmedia approaches have the potential to transform the perception of Yoga, continuous adaptation of pedagogical materials to align with students’ cultural realities is essential.
