ABSTRACT:

Educational quality is an abstract characteristic that sheds light on how well an institution or program fulfills its mission. In Colombia, the National Accreditation Council has the role of evaluating and endorsing the fulfillment of institutional and academic program quality goals that exceed expectations. Institutional accreditation is an autonomous process and decision that culminates positively with the certification of high educational quality. However, the process can become tedious when interpreting the guidelines of the National Accreditation Council. These guidelines are written in a way that any undergraduate program in the country can orient its process, which implies generic wording and leads to an interpretation of each point of the guides. This paper aims to establish a methodology that allows undergraduate programs, particularly the Biomedical Engineering program at UNAB, to establish the orientation for implementing the program’s self-assessment. Guidelines were obtained on what documentation should be collected and the questions the program should use for its stakeholders. This process enables a concrete vision of the entire self-assessment process, from reading the guidelines to establishing the measurement of factors. Structured planning from the beginning of the process is key to coordinating all members of the Biomedical Engineering program.
