Appraisal of Gender Equality in South African Context: A Journey Towards Self-Worth

ABSTRACT:

Long-standing discrimination against women exists in South Africa. This could be demonstrated by the patriarchy that has always existed. Men have traditionally been selected for higher positions and given preference in municipal administration. The past few years have seen attempts to curb this tendency, but despite numerous acts and circumstances, it persists. The administration is not taking strong enough action to prevent this from occurring. For this reason, the government needs to take decisive action to reverse this trend to keep it from happening. This entails having strict penalties in place for anyone who disobeys laws and policies intended to empower women in the country as well as dealing seriously with campaigns and actions. To guarantee that South Africa’s relationship with culture and gender equality thrives, this article suggests that civic education be put into place. The article gathers data and makes deductions using a qualitative desktop analysis. Gender inequality is a topic that requires constant attention and necessitates interventions, dialogues, and strategies. The goal of the post was to spark a discussion that would require platform participation from practitioners and policymakers. The author plans to regularly publish papers on this topic to create a longitudinal study of significant value and contribute to the fields of gender studies, local government, and public administration.
