ABSTRACT:

The pursuit of educational equity for girls is a pivotal facet of inclusive education policies. Despite international efforts, disparities persist, with some girls globally still devoid of fair and quality educational opportunities. This study employs a feminist literary analysis to elucidate the nuanced ways in which literature can invigorate public consciousness and mobilize support for quality education for girls. Using Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre as a focal point, this research adopts a multidisciplinary approach, interweaving women’s studies and educational theory to dissect the thematic portrayal of education in the narrative. This study points out that even in underprivileged settings, education in literature is presented as a transformative force for women, challenging gender stereotypes and promoting equality. The paper argues that higher education leads to women’s greater involvement in public life, thus fostering societal innovation and diversity. Furthermore, it examines how the education of the protagonist, Jane Eyre, cultivates her autonomy and self-determination, ultimately leading to economic independence and less reliance on patriarchal systems. Reflecting on Jane Eyre, we discern valuable historical insights into nineteenth-century women’s education and its implications for today’s educational landscape. The comparative analysis between Brontë’s work and current educational opportunities for women illuminates the strides made and underscores the need for continued progressive efforts to honor the legacy of educational pioneers and to further the cause of gender equality in education.
