ABSTRACT:

This study was conducted to examine the financial literacy tendencies of students from different generational groups studying in Anadolu University Graduate School of Social Sciences Distance Education Non-Thesis Master’s Degree Programmes. A total of 302 students participated in the study, which was conducted with the cross-sectional survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The data of the study were gathered online using the “Marmara Financial Literacy Attitude and Behaviour Scale” developed by Çelikten and Doğan (2020). Some findings of the study are as follows: (1) It has been determined that the financial literacy tendencies of female students in Generation X are at a higher level than male students in the same generation. (2) Generation Z students working in the public sector were found to have higher spending awareness than Generation Z students not working in any job. (3) Generation Y students with higher monthly income levels were found to have higher levels of financial literacy, financial responsibility, spending awareness and use of financial instruments. (4) As the technology usage competences of Generation Z students increase, their spending awareness levels also increase. (5) It was determined that the average daily usage time of technological devices does not affect the financial literacy tendencies of the generations.
