ABSTRACT:

This study investigates the effectiveness of environmental education policies in addressing waste disposal among school-age children in Ibadan, Nigeria, and proposes a novel approach involving parental involvement. With escalating environmental concerns, particularly regarding waste management, the role of education policies becomes pivotal. However, the efficacy of these policies is often limited by insufficient engagement of key stakeholders, including parents. In response, this research advocates for the integration of parental involvement strategies to enhance the impact of existing policies. Through a mixed-methods approach including surveys, interviews, and policy analysis, the study assesses the current state of environmental education policies in Ibadan and explores parental perspectives on waste disposal education. Additionally, it identifies barriers and facilitators to parental involvement and proposes tailored strategies for effectively engaging parents in waste management initiatives. The findings contribute to the advancement of environmental education policies by highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts between policymakers, educators, and parents in addressing environmental challenges at the grassroots level.
