ABSTRACT:

Due to the skill requirements by industries for tertiary graduates, the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) collaborated with Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to offer a minor degree in Digital Content Marketing (DCM) through the Continuing Education and Training (CET) pathway and the Work-Study Post Diploma (WSP) programme. The WSP programme is a 12-month programme that focuses on practical training that helps to deepen the skills and knowledge of participants in DCM. Through structured, institutional-based learning complemented by on-the-job training (OJT), the programme aims to strengthen the employability of DCM graduates.
Furthermore, for those who have graduated from the SUSS-SP collaborated WSP, they can attain a Specialist Diploma (SD), which allows them to have an advanced standing in the DCM Minor Programme at SUSS should they subsequently pursue a degree programme.
Based on feedback from the inaugural graduating cohorts in 2020 and 2021, 50% feel that the DCM WSP/SD has strengthened their employability and/or employment in the field of marketing, and over 80% state that they will recommend this programme to those who wish to pursue a career in DCM. Participants also mentioned that the top 3 skills that they have picked up are content planning, analytics, and soft skills.
With this, we intend to investigate this education model by reviewing (1) deployment of DCM skills attained by the graduates and (2) articulation of the SUSS-SP DCM to SUSS degree program with a survey of graduates to review possible gaps and improvements that can be made to the program.
