ABSTRACT:

The IDEA framework, encompassing inclusion, diversity, equity, and action, represents a paradigm shift in primary education. This research paper introduces the IDEA framework, its integration into school primary curricula, and its potential to stimulate further research. The IDEA framework is comprised of three parts: lessons across primary year groups with children’s literature and art serving as central components to each session, staff training to promote inclusive learning spaces for all students, and a student-led committee to allow for student voice and action around inclusion, diversity, and equity in a primary school setting. This study highlights the inclusion of the IDEA framework into primary school curricula, highlighting the necessity of concrete methods, particularly within lesson plans. It investigates the implications for student learning, teacher development, and the larger educational community. The IDEA framework is expected to spark subsequent research, fostering innovation in educational practices. This paper offers a foundational platform for educators, researchers, and policymakers to engage with the IDEA framework, commencing a journey towards a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable education system that empowers students in a dynamic world.
Inclusion promotes an inclusive educational environment that meets the requirements of various students from all backgrounds. Diversity fosters respect and cross-cultural understanding by encouraging students to appreciate their differences. Equity emphasises equitable opportunity by removing systemic impediments to high-quality education. Action emphasises the framework’s versatility and practicality, particularly its use in IDEA lesson plans.
