ABSTRACT:

The concept of sustainability has garnered significant attention in academic, corporate, and policy circles due to concerns about environmental degradation, social inequities, and economic imbalances. This study assesses the state of scientific research and the evolution of sustainability, with a focus on the automotive industry within the realms of management, business, and economics. The bibliometric analysis was conducted from May to August 2023, exploring trends and interconnections in the multidisciplinary field. It reveals a dynamic global engagement reflecting diverse contributions across continents and cultures. Moreover, it highlights the urgency of making industries more sustainable, showcasing the automotive and transportation sector as a significant contributor to global emissions, particularly due to its growth in the last 30 years. The scope of regulations to achieve net-zero emissions in automotive, extends beyond production facilities up to vehicle usage. Despite the availability of over 315,000 sustainability-related publications in the Web of Science database between 1900 and 2023, a comprehensive understanding of sustainability management practices and outputs, particularly within specific industries, remains in an early developmental stage. Further research is essential for mapping academic output in this area.
