Accreditation Curriculum Map For An Educational Leadership Preparation Program

Dr. Glenn L. Koonce

ABSTRACT:

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) is the United States nationally recognized accreditor for university programs that prepare students for roles in educational leadership (school principals & superintendents). Educational leadership programs are accredited at CAEP’s Advanced Level requiring a self-study with evidence-based analyses, and continuing improvement. The program faculty in a university in the eastern part of the United States has incorporated a curriculum map titled the Leadership and Learning Matrix (L&L Matrix) to address CAEP Standard RA1.1: Content and Pedological Knowledge assuring that graduates through the program curriculum demonstrate their ability to work with diverse P-12 students effectively. This documentary research case study examined the development of the L&L Matrix which aligns each course in the program with course assignments and the triangulation of data sources 1) Professional Standards for Educational Leaders, 2) State Department of Education competencies for the Administration & Supervision endorsement, and 3) the regulations found in CAEP Standard RA1.1. Data were analyzed based on successful outcomes from the 2023 CAEP accreditation of the program, the university CAEP Quality Assurance System, and minutes from program faculty meetings and data retreats. The culminating outcome of this study is the use of results for continuous improvement in the program which will be addressed in this session.
