ABSTRACT:

This paper addresses emotional education with the general objective of raising awareness regarding the identification of emotions and their effect on interactions by the teacher and the student in the classroom. The overall objective of this project is to raise awareness about how to identify the six main emotions (joy, disgust, sadness, anger, fear or surprise) and how they can affect the development of the teaching-learning situations present in a classroom. Specifically, it deals with students in the third cycle of Primary (5th and 6th grade) in Spain. The methodological grounds are based on qualitative data compiled through an intensive bibliography revision. The research is completed with two related questionnaires based on qualitative and quantitative data drawn from Primary students (10–12-year-olds) and adults involved in the education of these students (parents, teachers, and administrative staff). The results of these surveys reflect a gap between students’ and adults’ perspectives.
