Socio-Economic Importance of Hydropower (In the Context of Sustainable Development)

ABSTRACT:
Climate change is one of the most important challenges of the modern world. The main reason for this is the emissions released as a result of the combustion of fossil fuels. The world’s leading economies are trying to convert and produce green energy. Hydropower is the oldest renewable energy source. Its exploitation began in the late 19th century and today it is the main source of energy for many countries. The UN Sustainable Development Goals involve the ecological, economic and social development of the Earth. Clean energy plays an important role in the implementation of these goals (Goals 7, 8 and 13).
The article describes the socio-economic benefits of hydropower and determines its future prospects. It describes the role of hydropower in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
