Implementation of the Brid’kan Method as a Key Competence Booster

Prof. Dr. Ana M. Pérez-Cabello and Elena Dueñas Cobacho

ABSTRACT:

European Commission underlines the importance of key competences for lifelong learning (2006). Updated recommendations, LifeComp (2018), frame them into three intertwined areas, personal, social, and learning to learn. Nowadays, technology literacy plays an important role in educational context to the extent that it may undermine other competences. This work introduces the Brid’kan method as a multidisciplinary tool, specifically, in foreign language teaching to palliate the above situation. This didactic model is grounded on Bridge 21, teamwork and technology, and Kagan’s neurolinguistics structures. This method seeks to encourage cooperative work, students’ participation, and show students a counterbalanced use of ICTs. In order to do so, different strategies are offered to develop their creativity, social, decision-taking and problem resolution skills along with the consideration of students’ emotions and feelings. Methodology is based on a qualitative study and a quantitative-qualitative questionnaire to teachers on the use of technology and key competences and teaching direct observation. Then, the Brid’Kan method is implemented in Primary Education English lessons. Results bring us an effective way to boost learning in competence terms for students and teachers. Students can work cooperatively in real situations and teacher can find a good training resource.
