De-escalation Strategies for Sex Scandals in Mental Health Leadership
Dr. Vasudev Das and Dr. Glykeria Teji
ABSTRACT:
Although abundant studies on leadership sex scandals exist in the research industry, sonographic investigative inquiry on de-escalation strategies for sex scandals in mental health leadership is negligible. This qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology study fills the gap in leadership literature. Grounded in Bandhura’s self-regulation and Prabhupada’s sonic therapeutic intervention (STI) frameworks, the study aimed at exploring the lived experiences of mental health leadership practitioners on strategies for de-escalating sex scandals in the industry. Data generation strategies are semi-structured interviews of purposeful samples and the reviews of relevant documents. Ten themes emerged from a meticulous analysis of the interview data transcription: consequentiality mindfulness; demonstrable self-control, high emotional intelligence, post-conventional consciousness, pro-spiritual values, self-regulation, sonic therapeutic intervention, the stiffest penalty for offenders, whistleblowing, and willpower. The ten emergent themes made it easier for mental health leaders to stay out of the industry’s illegal sex scandal dilemma. The study’s positive social change implications (PSCI) include enhanced social responsibility, greater mental health human resource management, mental health self-leadership, and purpose-driven leadership. The study’s findings might also engender more people-centered decision-making in the mental health industry and values-based and equitable leadership. The results of the study, if implemented, could potentially lessen the devastating consequences of sexual assault, rape, and the reputational damage brought on by high-profile sex scandals.
