Methodological Foundations for Compiling Etymological Dictionaries

ABSTRACT:
This article discusses the principles, criteria, and theoretical-methodological foundations for compiling etymological dictionaries. Etymological dictionaries should be based on a consistent principle, with dictionary entries grounded in accurate facts. Alongside universal features, these dictionaries must reflect the ethnopsychology and ethnolinguistic characteristics of the language they represent. The article also explores the historical development of etymological lexicography, structural varieties of etymological dictionaries, and the challenges involved in their compilation.
