ABSTRACT:
Continuing education plays a crucial role in personal development, workforce adaptability, and lifelong learning. This study explores the motivations, barriers, and outcomes associated with adult participation in continuing education programs. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of continuing education initiatives in enhancing professional skills and improving career opportunities in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys distributed to 100 adult learners across various institutions with qualitative interviews of 20 participants to gain deeper insight into their experiences. The Data was analyzed using simple percentage and the data analysis revealed that the primary motivations for enrollment include career advancement, skill development, and personal interest. However, participants also reported significant barriers such as time constraints, financial limitations, and lack of institutional support. Despite these challenges, the results indicate that continuing education positively impacts participants’ employability, confidence, and social engagement. The study concludes that tailored program design, flexible delivery methods, and targeted financial support are essential for increasing participation and improving outcomes. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of adult education trends and offer practical recommendations for educators, policymakers, and institutions aiming to promote lifelong learning. It was recommended that educators, policymakers, government and intuitions should priotize continuing education in the society.
