ABSTRACT:

This research critically assesses the implementation of inclusive educational policy in the basic schools of the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly in Ghana. Drawing upon a mixed-methods approach, including qualitative interviews, surveys, and document analysis, this study investigates various dimensions of inclusive education, including policy frameworks, teacher training, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement. The research highlights the challenges and opportunities encountered in the implementation of inclusive educational policy within the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly. It examines the extent to which policy directives are translated into practice at the grassroots level, assessing the effectiveness of support mechanisms for students with diverse needs, such as those with disabilities, special educational needs, or from marginalized communities. Findings reveal a complex landscape characterized by a myriad of factors influencing the implementation of inclusive education. While there are commendable efforts by educational authorities to promote inclusivity, including policy reforms and capacitybuilding initiatives, several challenges persist. These challenges encompass inadequate funding, limited teacher preparedness, infrastructural barriers, societal attitudes, and insufficient support structures for students with diverse needs. Furthermore, the research underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships among government agencies, non-governmental organizations, community stakeholders, and educators in fostering a more inclusive educational environment. Recommendations emanating from this research include the need for enhanced investment in teacher training programs tailored to inclusive pedagogy, the provision of adequate resources and infrastructure to support diverse learners, the promotion of community involvement and awareness campaigns, and the establishment of inclusive practices that uphold the rights and dignity of all learners.
