Utilisation Of Digital Strategies for Effective Learning of Science for Sustainable Development in Ekiti State University, Nigeria

ABSTRACT:

The study examined utilization of digital strategies for effective learning of science for sustainability in digital age. The study specifically addressed the impact of digital strategies in national sustainable development. The digital transformation of learning process represents a crucial sustainable developmental opportunity in educational system. As Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria faces the complex task of integrating technology into teaching and learning while considering various factors like socioeconomic disparities and infrastructure constraints. The objective of the study was to find out if digital strategy approach would enhance acquisition of skills for sustainability. The study employed a quasi-experimental design. The sample used for the study was an intact class of 50 students.  A package of recorded video clips was used to teach students some skills like critical thinking, team work and problem solving. The scores from both pre-test and post-test were analysed using t-test. The results revealed that there was significant difference in the post-test scores from in the experimental group demonstrating acquisition of some skills necessary for sustainability. The implication is that employment of digital strategy in teaching and learning process has a lot of benefits. The findings indicated that the students’ acquisition of skills was anchored on the pre-requisite digital literacy skills and their determination to contribute to National development. Based on the findings, more training on the use of educational digital devices through wor kshops and seminars were recommended. Educational Digital devices should be readily made available to instructors for use for instructional delivery.
