The Role of Legal Education in Shaping Social Justice and Governance: Insights from Palestinian Universities

ABSTRACT:
This research explores the intersection between legal education and social development, focusing on how law faculties can contribute to social justice, civic engagement, and governance. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines document analysis, interviews with law students and faculty, and case studies from Palestinian universities, the study examines how curricula, teaching methods, and extracurricular activities foster students’ understanding of legal systems, human rights, and ethical governance.
The findings indicate that students who engage in interactive learning, clinical programs, and community service initiatives develop stronger analytical, problem-solving, and civic skills, enabling them to contribute effectively to social and political processes. Moreover, integrating discussions on cultural identity, policy-making, and social change into law courses enhances students’ awareness of the societal impact of legal frameworks.
The study highlights lessons applicable to broader social sciences, suggesting that educational institutions can play a transformative role in preparing future professionals who are not only legally competent but also socially responsible. The research underscores the importance of aligning legal education with real-world societal challenges, particularly in regions facing complex political, economic, and cultural dynamics.
