Linking Sustainable Development Goals to Maqasid Al Shariah
Assoc. Prof. Dr Ahcene Lahsasna
ABSTRACT:
This paper explores the alignment between the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Maqasid al Shariah (the objectives of Islamic law). Both frameworks share a common vision of promoting human well-being, justice, and environmental stewardship. The SDGs address global challenges such as poverty, education, and climate change, while Maqasid al Shariah seeks to preserve essential human rights, including the protection of faith, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth. By linking the two, this paper highlights how Islamic principles can provide a moral and ethical foundation for achieving the SDGs, emphasizing the role of Islamic finance, social justice, and environmental protection in advancing sustainable development. The integration of these two frameworks offers a holistic approach to addressing global challenges, fostering a balanced and inclusive model for sustainable development grounded in both Shariah law and universal values.
