Using Mentimeter in Large Class to Enhance Learning and Teaching of Business Law Students

Dr. Rami Olwan

ABSTRACT:

The advancements in digital technologies and the internet have influenced higher education and transformed the educational experience of students at universities across the globe. Legal education is not immune to the influence of digital technologies, and law schools must adopt it to ensure students are adequately equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the significant opportunities and changing needs of their chosen profession and future career.
Mentimeter is an Audience Response System (ARS) that can be used to enhance the educational experience of students by allowing them to interact directly in class with lecturers, answering questions, and providing feedback using their digital devices.
In 2024, a small-scale project selected Mentimeter to enhance the engagement and learning experience of business students in a large class studying Company Law for Business (BLAW2006) at Curtin Law School (CLS) in Perth, Australia.
The early results of the survey and feedback from students confirmed that Mentimeter had a positive impact on improving participation, class discussion, and teaching. The paper will provide suggestions and recommendations for academics and lecturers who are considering using Mentimeter to promote active participation and learning at large classes. Furthermore, it will discuss pedagogical theories and the advantages of using digital technologies and the internet to improve the teaching experience of students, engagement and inclusion in higher education institutions.
