ABSTRACT:

This study explores the intricate institution of marriage among the tribal communities of the Great Andamanese and Nicobarese in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The primary objective is to comprehensively understand the marriage customs, gender dynamics, and the impact of modernization within these indigenous societies. By delving into the norms surrounding marriage, the research aims to uncover the traditional customs and rituals that govern matrimonial practices within these tribes. Additionally, a thorough examination of gender dynamics seeks to reveal the roles, responsibilities, and power structures that characterize marital relationships. The study also aims to shed light on how modernization influences these tribal communities, exploring the changing perspectives brought about by factors such as migration, education, and evolving societal priorities. Ultimately, this study strives to contribute a nuanced understanding of the diverse dynamics that shape the institution of marriage within the tribal context. By unraveling the complexities of cultural practices, the study seeks to foster a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage of the Great Andamanese and Nicobarese communities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
