Abdul Rahman Abdul Latip

ABSTRACT:

Corruption is a major threat to the sustainability and prosperity of Malaysia’s fisheries sector. It undermines good governance, harms livelihoods, and jeopardizes marine ecosystems. This study aims to explore vulnerabilities and corruption risks within the fisheries value chain. Employing a qualitative methodology, focus group discussions were conducted with key stakeholders  involved in regulating the fisheries sector to assess existing weaknesses and potential risks of corruption that may occur. Findings reveal multiple opportunities for corrupt practices throughout the fisheries sector in Malaysia. Outcomes of the study aims to inform effective policy development, enhance current enforcement efforts, and foster international cooperation to create a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for Malaysia’s fisheries sector.
