Folk Ukrainian Child Songs, Toys and Games in The Modern Museum Space
Dr. Levchuk Yaroslava
ABSTRACT:
The article describes the phenomenon of traditional child subculture as an ancient and modern thing at the same time. The ways and forms of using the components of the traditional Ukrainian child subculture in the modern museum space in Kyiv, Ukraine are analyzed. The problem urgency is determined by the challenges of modern Ukrainian society, which is at the crossroads of two contradictory tendencies of civilization development: globalization and tribalization (the movement towards ethnonational identity). Much of the institutional resource of Ukraine is aimed at forming a national identity of the individual. Many museums are changing the methods of working with the child audience, focusing on both the needs and requests of a child and aiming to attract the child as an active figure in the cultural space. The process of inculturation, through which the ethnic group «bequeaths itself» to new members, primarily children, is gaining new significance in the modern globalized world. The subject of the study is the cognitive properties of the components of the traditional Ukrainian child subculture and their application in the modern museum space. The aim of this article is to study the use of elements of the traditional Ukrainian child subculture in the museum space. The use of child folk songs and games, national child clothes, toys, and household items related to the child, in several museums in Kyiv will be analyzed, as well as forms of popularization of M. Hrushevsky’s child studies in the museum practices are outlined. Results and practical application of the study. The results of the study can be used in the concepts and practices of Ukrainian museums and cultural and educational centers for the wider use of the traditional Ukrainian child subculture components. The research includes the author’s experience of using of the components of the traditional Ukrainian child subculture in interactive cultural and educational projects of the National Museum of History of Ukraine and the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Historical Memorial Museum.
