Artificial Intelligence: The Impact on English Language Education and English Language Learning

ABSTRACT:
As a global lingua franca, the English language is utilized by speakers worldwide. This study provides insights into how artificial intelligence (AI) introduces new possibilities in English education and language learning, particularly in the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. It primarily addresses the integration of AI-driven instruction into pedagogical strategies, emphasizing how educators and learners can engage with the rapid advancements of AI that have transformed the landscape of English language education and learning. Given the rise of AI in this field, it is crucial for both English teachers and learners to understand how AI can effectively support English language education and facilitate the learning process. The study focuses on English educators and learners whose first language is not English, highlighting the diverse challenges they face in acquiring the language amidst the emergence of AI technologies. The methodology encompasses an analysis of current pedagogical strategies and technological innovations, along with a thorough examination of the effectiveness of AI in the context of English language education and learning. This presentation also explores the impact of artificial intelligence on English education through the lens of the author’s personal experiences as an educator implementing AI tools in the classroom. Key themes include an increase in student motivation and the challenges of balancing reliance on technology. By reflecting on practical experiences and situational outcomes, this presentation aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of AI’s role in contemporary English instruction and offer actionable strategies for educators navigating this evolving landscape. Findings reveal a comprehensive relationship between English language pedagogy and artificial intelligence, indicating that AI profoundly enhances the educational experience.
