Enhancing Senior High School Students’ English Vocabulary Acquisition through Communicative Language Teaching

ABSTRACT:
Vocabulary, as the basic building block of language, plays an essential role in language learning. It forms the foundation of grammar, sentences and discourse, and serve as the bridge for cross-cultural communication. The present study is an attempt to explore the effectiveness of communicative language teaching(CLT) in senior high school students’ English vocabulary acquisition. It demonstrates that students’ communicative competence can be significantly promoted through the use of authentic materials, learner-centered teaching, appropriate assessment and various interactive activities. By learning and analyzing the principles and historical background of CLT, the core concepts and perspectives of this teaching approach are elucidated. Additionally, senior high school vocabulary teaching situation and students’ features are stated in order to address each issue with a tailored approach. Through case analysis, the relevant issues and suggestions are discussed in this paper. From the research outcomes and relevant analysis, it can be summarized that the application of CLT can substantially enhance senior high school students’ vocabulary acquisition.
