Digitalization in Maritime Logistics: A Strategic Imperative for Competitive Resilience and Sustainable Value Creation
Mayada CHIBLI
ABSTRACT:
Global trade, both domestic and international, has experienced unprecedented expansion. Maritime transport remains one of the most efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable methods for moving goods over long distances. However, the increasing complexity of consumer demands and technological advancements necessitates strategic adaptation. This paper focuses on digitalization as a critical strategic option for maritime transport organizations to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and competitive advantage. A quantitative study involving 151 clients of maritime transport services was conducted, utilizing online surveys and statistical analyses (t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation). Results confirm that digitalization significantly improves service quality, reduces operational errors, and increases client satisfaction. Despite higher costs associated with digital transformation, clients prioritize service quality and efficiency over price. The study concludes that digitalization is not merely an option but a necessity for maritime firms to maintain competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global market.
