Exploring Using AI In College Psychology Classes

Dr. Ginny Q. Zhan

ABSTRACT:

AI is promising to take over the landscape of our digital world at a rapid pace. In higher education, integrating AI into instruction and learning is becoming a much talked about topic. Studies show that college faculty have mixed thoughts and reactions to generative AI. Some instructors are embracing it as a useful tool whereas others are feeling uncertain, curious, and concerned (McLaughlin & Ricevuto, 2024). I believe it can be a helpful assistant in teaching and learning if used responsibly. The research question is: how to balance innovative use of AI with academic integrity. The goal of my exploration is to figure out a way to take advantage of this modern technology and use it to better serve student success and prepare them for the future workforce. In this presentation, I would share with other educators how I attempted to address the research question in my exploration. I will share some of the available AI programs I’ve used and give examples of the activities I’ve done in my classes. My conclusion is that generative AI, used responsibly, can be a helpful assistant to teaching and learning.
