Fusion In the Classroom: Reimagining Team Teaching Through Interdisciplinary Integration

Dr. Kiarra Boenitz

ABSTRACT:

This paper explores the integration of interdisciplinary approaches within team teaching as an innovative model for the future of education. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as social constructivism, systems theory, and transdisciplinarity, it examines how knowledge is co-constructed across disciplines to address complex, real-world challenges. Interdisciplinary integration, a key feature of team teaching, involves blending ideas and methodologies from various fields, fostering critical thinking, and promoting global collaboration among students and educators. The paper outlines the processes of integration—such as boundary-crossing and conceptual blending—and identifies potential challenges, including epistemological divides and logistical constraints. By analyzing current trends and gaps in the literature, this research underscores the transformative potential of interdisciplinary integration to reshape higher education curricula, enhance international partnerships, and prepare students for the demands of an increasingly interconnected world. It calls for institutional support to fully realize the potential of this pedagogical approach, offering a path forward for innovation in teaching and learning.
