Miranda Tsintskiladze
ABSTRACT:
The objective of the study Is to examine the role of cultural heritage (HC) in socially sustainable development and through the descriptive analysis provide a comprehensive understating of heritage management and sustainable development. The study highlights the importance of long-term planning, community engagement, and strengthening partnerships in sustainable cultural heritage management development. In turn, to ensure that cultural heritage conservation is sustainable, there is a need to consider quality integration with economic, social-cultural, and environmental values. The qualitative methodology used for the research provides the theoretical understanding of community empowerment in the cultural heritage, which resulted in social cohesion, well-being, conflict elimination, and other positive effects that represent the prerequisite for economic development. The documentary evidence analysis used in the study demonstrates the importance of community engagement in the CH planning process, however, the cultural heritage practice in a particular municipality showed that there are sets of constraints regarding the community participation in the heritage planning process. Knowledge of sustainable development principles, cultural heritage potential, and possible implications of tourism guarantee successful community participation in sustainable cultural tourism development. Effective cooperation of governmental, non-governmental, and educational organizations creates the basis for the successful management of cultural heritage.
