The Effect of Reminiscent Play Therapy as a “Psychological Care” Intervention for the Elderly in Taiwan
Jiun-De Lin
ABSTRACT:
Reminiscent play therapy has positive effects on the elderly. This study explored this therapeutic approach and aimed to establish a new model of “psychological care” for seniors through coplaying games. By utilizing the process of “Reminiscent play therapy” and using “Reminiscent play materials” as interactive stimuli, the research sought to understand the emotional experiences and empowerment of both caregivers and elderly individuals during the caregiving process, thus addressing the psychological health of seniors in central Taiwan. The research was conducted in two stages: the initial stage examined the empowerment effects of caregiver participation in the program, while the subsequent stage investigated the impact of participation on the caregiving relationship between caregivers and the elderly. Looking ahead, the study hopes to continue promoting and applying practices in psychological care. In the initial stage, the study was conducted through experimental design research, which revealed that the program empowered 10 caregivers. In the subsequent stage, it produced positive effects on 9 elderly participants.
