ABSTRACT:

Nino Kharatishvili’s play “Our Hearts” depicts the image of Kolkhian Medea from different angle; It shows the main character’s tender feelings towards Jason. The play is about two characters being in love who struggle against the reality and destiny.
Nino Kharatishvili’s play clearly shows the power of prophecy and the strength of love. Without love and beloved ones, Medea’s life is meaningless. It is easier for Medea to bear the pain from killing her own children than seeing dead Jason. She commits suicide after Jason’s death. After Jason’s death, the world loses its charm, everything becomes meaningless for Medea and she disappears.
Final scene of the play is the most memorable. Innocent children are placed in the glass box. They have to answer for the sins of their parents. They suffer from their parents’ sins and die slowly in front of their own parents, who do nothing to save them, yet both of them love their children. Jason is powerless against Medea. As for Medea, she is powerless against powerful passions she is possessed by – Love and Hate.
In the play, the contemporary Georgian writer Nino Kharatishvili is faithful to the traditional mythopoetic image of Medea, that the reader knows from the tragedies of Euripides.
