The key principles of the EQAVET Peer Review Methodology
Fonzo Concetta, Evangelista Laura
ABSTRACT:
In Europe and beyond, Education and Training providers systematically undergo a mix of internal, self-assessment, and external evaluation, assessment carried out by inspectors or auditors, aimed at maintaining and improving the quality of the evaluated institutions or providers. Based on the research results of several experimentations, carried out by INAPP’s EQAVET National Reference Point, this paper shows how the self-assessment methodology, known as EQAVET Peer Review, can support the development and enhancement of quality assurance procedures of education providers. Besides the key principles of the EQAVET Peer Review methodology, the focus will also be on its adaptability, flexibility and sustainability in different teaching and learning settings. Finally, the research outcomes will place a strong emphasis on the increased synergies created by an integrated approach of self-evaluation tools and quality assurance guidelines (such as the European Guidelines and Standards for Higher Education – ESG), reinforcing the idea to further explore all those opportunities that allow to improve the quality management and control measures in place, in order to enhance equity and inclusion through the existing policies and practices adopted at National and international level.
