Innovative Didactic Approaches in Higher Education: The INU Learning Model

Prof. Dr. Ute Gartzen-Wiegand

ABSTRACT:

Traditional higher education often relies on static teaching methods, limiting flexibility and student engagement. This paper presents the INU learning model, a novel didactic approach that integrates synchronous and asynchronous elements into a dynamic, technology-supported framework. The core innovation lies in the structured combination of self-paced learning materials—such as video content, literature, and interactive exercises—with weekly live sessions fostering in-depth discussions. Additionally, the INU model incorporates real-time knowledge assessments through quizzes and assignments, ensuring continuous student engagement and progress monitoring. A key component of this approach is the dedicated INU learning app, which provides seamless access to all course materials, external resources, and communication channels, enhancing the learning experience across various devices. Since April 2023, this model has been successfully implemented at a state-recognized university in four different degree programs. Initial results indicate increased student participation, improved learning outcomes, and higher satisfaction levels. By fostering a more adaptive and student-centered learning environment, this model responds to the increasing demand for flexible and interactive educational formats. The paper discusses implementation strategies, student feedback, and the broader implications for higher education.
