ABSTRACT:

This meta-analytic review aims to investigate the relationship between online learning platforms and student engagement, with a focus on its impact on academic performance. Despite the growing popularity of online learning, concerns about student engagement and academic performance remain prevalent. This review synthesizes findings from 30 studies published over the past decade, examining the effects of online learning platforms on student engagement and academic outcomes. Results indicate that online learning platforms have a moderate positive effect on student engagement and a small to moderate positive effect on academic performance. The review highlights the importance of considering individual differences, instructional design, and teacher support in promoting effective online learning experiences. The findings suggest that online learning platforms can be an effective tool for enhancing student engagement and academic performance, but only when implemented with careful consideration of these factors.
