ABSTRACT:

This paper evaluates the effectiveness of e-learning systems concerning motivation and academic achievement through a sample size of 150 students of English at the University of Laghouat, Algeria. Since traditional learning environments are progressively substituted with digital ones, conceptualizing such online learning platforms’ ability to improve motivational and performance outcomes becomes of critical importance. The study integrates an extensive literature review with a mixed-method approach: student surveys, semi-structured interviews, and analysis of academic performance data. The preliminary findings indicate that the interactive features of an e-learning system, such as gamification and personalized learning paths, are very important in motivating students. Greater utilization of such systems is also reflected in improved performance in particular subjects that are more interactive. The key e-learning features which could be deliberated to bring improvement in the performance of students will also be identified from this study. The recommendation for educators is to integrate more interactive tools and also personalized options for learning in an e-learning system, while on the other hand, the institutions should provide training for students and faculty in order to reap maximum benefits from these platforms.
