Lucia Dančišinová
ABSTRACT:
At present, intercultural competence development is also relevant in business education. Cultural differences enter the working sphere and there is an eligible need for suitable skills and competences. The purpose of the article is to illustrate the importance of understanding the concepts of cultural metaphors and values for business culture identification. Systematic and critical literature review method was used to identify and describe dominant cultural metaphors and cultural values in academic literature dealing with culture and business culture. In addition, Hofstede´s Country comparison tool was used to compare the Czech and Slovak cultural dimensions to exemplify the importance of business culture identification and its possible usage in business practice and education. There are dominant cultural metaphors of the octopus, the software of the mind, and onion skins. Cultural values in business discourse are treated as dimensions, which could be measured and compared, such as in the case of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The implications of the study are relevant for the context of intercultural competence development as well as business education.
