R Gouws-Meyer, E. Jordaan, M Abrie
ABSTRACT:
This abstract presents a structured evaluation approach for assessing the effectiveness and quality of a higher education teacher training program. The need for experienced and innovative educators in higher education institutions has demanded a thorough evaluation of teacher training programs to ensure they are in line with changing pedagogical demands and learner needs. This evaluation framework combines qualitative and quantitative methodologies to provide an assessment of a teacher training program that was conducted at the University of Technology in South Africa. The evaluation includes various dimensions, including curriculum design, pedagogical approaches, instructor competencies, participant satisfaction, and program outcomes. This evaluation framework, which uses a combination of surveys, interviews, and observations, allows stakeholders to gain insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the teacher training program, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions to maximize the quality and impact of professional development opportunities for higher education instructors. The study underscores the importance of continuous evaluation and quality assurance mechanisms in building a culture of excellence in higher education teaching and learning.
