ABSTRACT:

In this study, we analyze the impact of work-life balance (WLB) on corporate financial performance (CFP) in a cross-national context. Using employee reviews collected by Glassdoor.com for a sample of European companies from different industries covering the period from 2008 until 2021. We plan to apply regression analysis to test this link and expect to find a positive impact on CFP, indicated by return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). Moreover, we plan to study the effect of country-level context on this relationship and expect to find the link to be more pronounced in countries with civil-law tradition than in countries with common-law tradition. Moreover, we expect to find the link to be more pronounced in countries with high EPL levels than in countries with low EPL levels. We aim to contribute to employee literature by examining the impact of work-life balance on firm financial performance in a multinational context. Moreover, we aim to add to the law and finance literature by examining the institutional factor and how it affects the relationship between employee welfare and firm performance.
