Implementation of local curriculum in a project-based learning kindergarten in Taiwan

ABSTRACT:

Project-based learning has become more and more popular in the early childhood education setting in Taiwan. It involves children in designing, developing, and constructing practical solutions to their problems. Project-based learning can also foster holistic development and learning in children. The project process as having three stages: preparation, construction, and restitution. A local curriculum can help children to connect with their learning and see its relevance to their own lives. The study demonstrates the implementation of the local curriculum (Tainan park) in a public preschool (The affiliated preschool of Tainan municipal Gong-Yuan elementary school) in Taiwan. Teachers’ teaching diary and children’s learning portfolios were analyzed to show the results.
