Quizlet as a tool for Teaching Vocabulary

ABSTRACT:

The application of modern technology in the classroom has made a remarkable impact in English Language Teaching. Nowadays, most English language teachers incorporate different technological applications and aids in delivery of their lessons. One current practice is the implementation of Quizlet as an application tool in teaching English, with specific focus on Vocabulary. Different aspects of vocabulary are assessed, some of the test items include word formation, synonyms, and antonyms. The present study was carried out in a Higher Education Institution (HEI), General Foundation Programme (GFP) at Majan University College (MUC). It aims to investigate the effectiveness of utilising technology in motivating learners, increasing reciprocal interaction, and enhancing their performance. The study was conducted for two different classes (32 students in each class). The first class (class A) was the experimental group with Quizlet implementation, and the second class (Class B) was the control group without Quizlet implementation or any other technical tool. The students of the experimental group (class A) received the treatment (implementation of Quizlet) two to three times a week. Students in class A were more interactive in the class and able to recall the vocabulary learned. Additionally, the performance of class A in the exams was better compared to class B.
