Ghulam Irtaza, Kashaf Fatima, Dr. Nusra Innayat
ABSTRACT:
In the era of postmodernism, the escalating reliance on technology and the internet has ushered in a new era of cyber threats, posing substantial risks to individuals and organizations alike. Cybersecurity education and awareness are crucial components in safeguarding against these threats, but often require innovative approaches to effectively engage users. This research explores the integration of art and design into cybersecurity education and awareness materials as a means to bridge this gap. It investigates how art and design can enhance cybersecurity awareness and empower users with knowledge about privacy and data protection. The study employs a multi-method approach, combining content analysis and in-depth interviews. Content analysis systematically examines existing digital art installations, interactive exhibits, visual storytelling, and privacy-focused tools related to cybersecurity. In contrast, in-depth interviews involve artists, cybersecurity experts, designers, and users who have experience with digital art-based cybersecurity materials. The study examines their experiences, motivations, and challenges in utilizing art and design for cybersecurity education. The findings highlight that art and design play a crucial role in making cybersecurity information more accessible and engaging. It breaks down complex cybersecurity concepts, such as phishing and malware, into visually appealing and easily understandable materials. Art and design also enhance user interfaces, making them more user-friendly and encouraging users to pay attention to security warnings. By leveraging the power of art and design, this research aims to transform how we approach cybersecurity education and awareness, fostering a more cyber-aware and secure digital environment. It provides insights into the potential of creative and artistic approaches to enhance user privacy and cybersecurity knowledge, reinforcing essential concepts and encouraging users to adopt good cybersecurity practices.
